Coach Pitch Rules

2012 Alabama USSSA Coach Pitch Specific Rules:

 

A.  All balls hit into fair territory are fair no matter how far they travel.

 

B.  All infielders must be 30′ from the batter when the ball is hit.  This is an umpire’s judgment.

 

C.  Pitching Circle – There will be a sixteen foot (16’) in diameter circle centered at forty feet (40’) from the back point of home plate. The coach will pitch from the circle or the umpires’ judgment. The player pitcher may not leave the circle until the ball is hit.

 

D. A base runner is out for leaving the base before the ball is hit or reaches

home plate. Stealing is not allowed.

 

E. Ten (10) defensive players will play in the field with four (4) outfielders.

The fourth (4th) outfielder may not be allowed to assume an infield

position. All outfielders must stay behind the bases in the grass.

 

F. The batting order shall constitute all players on the team roster at the

beginning of the game. Late arrivals shall be inserted at the bottom of

the batting order. All players on the roster shall bat before returning to

the top of the batting order.

 

G. A maximum of seven (7) runs may be scored per inning or three (3) outs.

This includes the last inning.

 

H. Teams may use free substitution on defense but the batting order must

remain the same.

 

I. Defensive coaches are not allowed on the field of play and must coach

From foul territory or dugout.

 

J. Umpires will call “time” after every play and declare the ball dead. “Time”

should be called as soon as the lead runner is not attempting to

advance. “Time” does not have to be called by the participants.

 

K. No Intentional Walks.

 

L. The Infield Fly Rule is not in effect.

 

M. A batter shall receive a maximum of 5 pitches or three (3) swinging

strikes. If the batter fouls the 5th pitch he can continue to bat.

 

N. The defensive player listed as pitcher cannot leave the pitching circle

until the ball is hit.

 

O. Courtesy runners are allowed for catcher.

 

P. When a batted ball hits the Pitching Coach, the following shall apply:

8.06.S.1 If in the umpire’s judgment, the coach did not make a legitimate attempt to avoid contact, the batter is

declared out and no runners shall advance.

8.06.S.2 If in the umpire’s judgment, the coach did make a legitimate attempt to avoid contact, the ball

becomes dead and a no-pitch is declared.

 

Q. Bunting is not allowed in Coach Pitch.  PENALTY: If a batter swings after “showing” bunt, the batter is called out and no runners shall advance.
